Dr Chui received his undergraduate medical training from the National University of Singapore and graduated with Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1990. He subsequently completed his basic surgical training and obtained his fellowship diploma in Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow (FRCS). His exposure to the excellent work of Singapore’s pioneering batch of paediatric surgeons at the Singapore General Hospital very quickly attracted him to this challenging and demanding surgical specialty.
Dr Chui underwent advanced surgical training in Paediatric Surgery under the Academy Of Medicine, Singapore. Upon his successful completion of the programme, he was awarded the Certificate of Specialist Accreditation in Paediatric Surgery by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. In 1999, he was awarded the Health Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) scholarship for a 24-month fellowship programme in Paediatric Surgical Oncology at the renowned St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tennessee, USA.
Upon his return, Dr Chui led the development of Paediatric Surgical Oncology in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH). He pioneered laboratory research in childhood solid malignancies in Singapore. He championed active collaboration among multi-centre and multidisciplinary groups that further enhanced the standard of childhood cancer care in Singapore. Dr Chui has remained active in the international arena in Paediatric Surgical Oncology and has always been willing to share new treatment strategies with his patients and colleagues.
Besides providing cutting-edge surgical techniques to his patients, Dr Chui built on research and training the younger generation of paediatric surgeons. As part of the largest paediatric surgery training programme in Singapore, he trained surgeons from both locally and other countries. He was awarded the Best Clinical Teacher Award by KKH in 2003. He has made multiple presentations in international medical conferences. He has published extensively in many peer-reviewed international journals, and still serves as a peer reviewer for journals. He was also one of the pioneering surgeons who developed the Paediatric Minimally Invasive Surgery Programme at KKH. He was the Head of the Department of Paediatric Surgery at KKH from 2005 till 2007.
Dr Chui’s passion for quality personalized patient care has led him to provide advanced surgical treatments at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a premier tertiary medical facility. He is being supported by a dedicated team of paediatric anaesthetists, paediatricians, neonatologists and other specialists. Dr Chui continues to establish himself in treatment of childhood cancers like neuroblastoma, sarcoma and recurrent solid tumors. Since its inception in 2007, our centre has successfully established Children’s Surgical Oncology Programme, the first in a private medical facility. A comprehensive team of paediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, nursing and allied healthcare professionals are available to provide coordinated care for the child’s treatment. |
