Dr Chui graduated from the National University of Singapore with Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in 1990. He
subsequently underwent basic surgical training and obtained his Diploma of Fellowship in Surgery from the Royal College
of Surgeons in Glasgow (FRCS). His exposure to the excellent work of Singapore’s pioneering batch of paediatric surgeons
at the Singapore General Hospital very quickly attracted him to this challenging and demanding surgical specialty.
Upon his successful completion of the advanced surgical training in Paediatric Surgery under the Academy of Medicine,
Singapore, Dr Chui was awarded the Certificate of Specialist Accreditation in Paediatric Surgery by the Ministry of
Health, Singapore. From 1999 to 2001, he completed a fellowship programme in Paediatric Surgical Oncology at the
renowned St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Tennessee, USA.
Upon his return, Dr Chui led the development of Paediatric Surgical Oncology in KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital
(KKH). He championed active collaboration among multi-centric and multidisciplinary groups to enhance the standard of
childhood cancer care in Singapore. Furthermore, he was also one of the pioneering surgeons who developed the Paediatric
Minimally Invasive Surgery in Singapore. He continued his interest in imparting knowledge with his peers and was honored
with the Best Clinical Teacher Award by KKH in 2003. Dr Chui has also served as the Head of the Department of Paediatric
Surgery at KKH and as senior clinical lecturer with the National University of Singapore.
Dr Chui has remained active in the international community especially in the field of Paediatric Surgical Oncology. He
keeps himself updated with contemporary treatment strategies. To ensure that every child with cancer has access to
state-of-the-art surgical management, Dr Chui believes in global dissemination of best practices and advancement in
medical education. For more than 23 years, he has travelled to many parts of the world as guest lecturer to share
medical knowledge with local doctors who treat childhood cancers. In 2010, he was elected and served as an executive
committee member of the International Society of Paediatric Surgical Oncology (IPSO) for 4 years and he was subsequently
elected and served as the Secretary of the IPSO for 6 years (2015-2021). He has published extensively in peer-reviewed
international journals, has authored multiple chapters in textbooks in Paediatric Surgery, and is serving as associate
editor of the World Journal of Pediatric Surgery and a regular peer reviewer for many international journals.
Since 2007, Dr Chui’s passion for quality personalized patient care has led him to provide advanced surgical treatments
at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, a premier tertiary medical facility. He is very privileged to be supported by a large
dedicated team of paediatric specialists who share the common goal of providing responsive individualized care to
children and their parents who seek our assistance. Our centre has successfully established Children’s Surgical Oncology
Programme, the first in a private medical facility, that is accessible to everyone within and beyond Singapore. A
comprehensive team consisting of paediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, nursing and allied healthcare
professionals are available to provide coordinated care for the child’s treatment.
